When traveling in Thailand I have noticed that some trees are wrapped with fabric. Some trees even have traditional Thai women clothing, beautiful silk suits. Why they do that?
This has to do with the Thai believe in ghosts and spirits. These trees are believed to have spirits in them. Wrapping it with fabric protects from lumber.

However, the story behind Ta-khian (ตะเคียน) tree is the interesting one. These trees ,which can live hundreds of years, are believed to inhabit a woman's spirit.
Thai people believe a spirit can help them. They come to the tree with a wish, then if the wish is granted they would like to give something back.
The spirit is a woman's spirit, so they give a traditional Thai woman silk suit.

One of the most successful three I've seen is the tree next to Big C center in Rama IV, Bangkok. So if you need assistance with spirit I would recommend to get over there.
