I was supprised to learn that there is a concept of Hell (Naraka) in Budahism. The punishment is conducted for the bad karma accumulated in past lives. When bad karma is gone, the spirit can re-born into the world. Thus, unlike monotheistic relegions spirit does not stay in hell eternaly.

The spirits sculptures represents spirit of creatures. The rabit head is the rabits spirits, bird head is bird spirits, etc...
